Chodewave is a stabilized cubensis with a look you will not forget: short, thick, wavy fruits that earned the name honestly. Potency sits comfortably above average, but the real draw is the character.

Lab-based estimate

This strain averages about 0.41% total tryptamines against roughly 0.9% for a typical cubensis, so the ranges below are scaled to it. Pick how far you want to go:

≈ 0.2 – 0.5 gSub-perceptual. For scheduled routines, not a trip.
≈ 1 – 2 gA mild shift in mood and senses. Social and functional for most people.
≈ 4 – 6 gA full trip: visuals, introspection. Clear your evening and stay somewhere familiar.
≈ 5 – 10 gIntense and immersive. Experienced users only, ideally with a sober sitter.

These are relative starting ranges, not a measurement of your bag. Potency swings two to four times between batches of the same strain. Start at the low end, wait at least 90 minutes before judging, and do not redose the same night.

Numbers: strain averages from Oakland Hyphae Psilocybin Cup lab results where available; gram ranges adapted from Psychedelic Support’s dosing guide. Taking medication or new to all of this? Talk to a health professional first. Not medical advice.

What It Looks Like

The name is a fair description. In mycology a “chode” is a short, thick, chonky fruit, and the “wave” is the ripple you see along the cap: undulating edges and a smooth, curvy form. Once you have seen one, Chodewave is hard to mistake for anything else.

  • Size: variable, occasionally reaching up to 9 inches (20 cm), though that is rare;
  • Cap: wavy and curved with rippling edges, brown to golden on top, gills often peeking through;
  • Stem: short and wide, thick and bulky, white to light grey, with no real veil beyond some discolouration;
  • Gills: brownish and, on some fruits, exposed enough to make spore collection easy.

Its closest relative, Albino Chodewave, is even wavier but plain white, with none of the brown accents on the cap.

Where It Comes From

Chodewave is a stabilized cross of Tidal Wave and APE. “Stabilized” just means it has grown true to type for six or seven generations, so you get consistent fruits rather than a coin toss. Tidal Wave (sometimes Thaidal Wave) is itself a Penis Envy x B+ cross with a reputation for serious strength, and Albino Penis Envy is the pale, potent offshoot of the Penis Envy line. Its exact origin is debated, but nobody argues about the potency.

Look at that family tree and weakness is the last thing you would expect. Every parent in the mix runs high in psilocybin and psilocin, and like father, like son applies neatly to crosses of this kind.

The strain is credited to Raymond Midichee, better known in the community as Uncle J. He and his wife Maya are familiar names among growers and now run the MycoGeeky podcast.

How to Take It

The goal is simple: get the psilocybin from dried Chodewave into your system. Mushrooms have good bioavailability, so your digestive tract is the most reliable route. In practice that means eating small pieces of dried shroom.

  • Cut the shroom into very small pieces. Chodewave can be tough to chew in big chunks, and the taste is not its strong suit;
  • Weigh your portion on an accurate scale. Guessing by eye is how people end up somewhere they did not plan to go;
  • Wash the pieces down with water, or fold them into cold food. Keep it cold: psilocybin breaks down with heat and loses potency;
  • Eat, then start a timer so you know exactly how long it has been before deciding whether to add anything;
  • Settle in. Depending on the amount, expect the first shifts in perception somewhere around 30 to 60 minutes, or just a gentle creative lift if you have kept things very light.

Start low and go slow. It is far better to find your sweet spot on the third or fourth outing than to overshoot on day one and spend the afternoon white-knuckling it.

Effects to Expect

For all the visual drama, Chodewave behaves much like other P. cubensis strains once it is in you. It will never top a most-potent list, but it is a dependable, adjustable tool: dial the dose and you can steer the experience. Roughly, as you move up the scale:

Very light

  • Sharper focus, creativity and productivity;
  • A gentle lift in mood;
  • Quieter anxiety.

Mild

  • Perception starts to bend and the senses sharpen;
  • A soft, euphoric warmth;
  • A stronger feeling of connection to people and to nature, and a reflective, empathetic streak;
  • Easy relaxation.

Moderate

  • Vivid visuals and stretched, elastic time;
  • A real sense of spiritual connection;
  • Deep introspection;
  • Heightened creativity and a broader read on yourself and the world.

Strong

  • An overwhelming, all-in psychedelic experience;
  • Intense visuals;
  • The door to ego transformation;
  • Highly spiritual sensations.

At the very top, effects turn genuinely intense and unpredictable: full ego dissolution, powerful hallucinations, and for some a sense of the mystical. It is impossible to promise how that lands, because it depends entirely on your experience, intention, and setting.

When People Reach For It

Chodewave suits a range of occasions depending on how much you take:

  • Personal growth. Taken alone or with a trusted guide, to sit with your thoughts and work through things;
  • Social settings. At lower doses, a mild lift and a stronger sense of empathy and connection at gatherings or shows;
  • Creative work. A nudge to imagination before painting, writing or music;
  • Therapeutic contexts. Psilocybin is being studied for depression, anxiety and PTSD, and some people use it, ideally with a trained therapist, as part of that work;
  • Self-care. Small amounts for relaxation and stress relief, no big trip required.

Effects vary widely with dose and the person, so treat it with respect and keep to a safe, familiar setting with people you trust.

Staying Safe

With a strain that carries some punch, a few ground rules keep the experience on the right side of good:

  • Skip alcohol and other medications alongside the mushrooms. Interactions are not worth the gamble;
  • Clear your plate first. Finish any pressing tasks and give yourself five to seven free hours after a larger dose;
  • Stay in a familiar, controlled environment until the effects have fully worn off;
  • Be honest about the dose. There is no prize for pushing higher than you need, especially early on.

If the old “it is barely working, I should eat more” thought turns up, wait at least another hour before acting on it. A dose that is too small is a minor letdown. An accidental double you were not ready for is a much longer evening.

A sober companion, or sitter, is worth having on hand to keep an eye on things and help if needed. Yes, there is a certain romance to a solo heroic dose in a dim, silent room, the way McKenna and other early explorers went about it, but that is expert territory: not something for your first, third or tenth time. If you are new, a trusted friend nearby beats bravado every time.

Similar Strains

Chodewave is still a young strain, so it does not have many spin-offs yet. The one worth knowing is Albino Chodewave (ACW): some call it an isolated albino version of the original from Uncle J, others a cross of Chodewave and B+. Either way it runs slightly milder and looks genuinely beautiful. A handful of others, such as Loaves, Scylla, Chodewave x Yeti and ACW x Shakti, are floating around forums, but most are years from reaching anyone’s shelf.

If you like the idea of Chodewave but want a different flavour of experience, a few well-known strains are worth a look:

Golden Teacher

Golden Teacher is the classic for spiritual, introspective trips, with a reputation for calm, clarity and understanding, plus the handsome golden caps it is named for.

Penis Envy

Penis Envy is one of the most potent cubensis strains and one of Chodewave’s grandparents: more psilocybin, far less visual charm.

Blue Meanies

Naming chaos means two very different mushrooms share this name. The Blue Meanies we carry are Panaeolus cyanescens, an award-winning, seriously potent strain that lives up to the name far more than its weaker cubensis namesake. Mind the dose with these.
